Christenings

A Christening is a special Service to welcome a new person, baby or adult into the church family.

The Christening Service includes the ‘Baptism’, where water from the font is used as a sign of God’s covenantal promise, and to express a new commitment – a fresh start that acknowledges where we are on our journey of faith in Jesus Christ. It might be the very beginning of that journey for you or your children, or you may feel you have been on it a while! Either way, Baptism expresses a desire and commitment to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ.

At a Christening for babies and children, it is the Parents and Godparents who speak on behalf of the children being baptised, and St Peter’s church family support you in this.

Some families prefer a thanksgiving service to mark a new addition to the family – that’s great, we love them too!
